The first week

The first week, what a blur of exhaustion and sleepless nights. Hao Hao led the way in recovering from the jet lag. She was soon sleeping 9pm to 9am. Her first few nights included some screaming, but that soon subsided. We decided that it may have been caused by the Benedryl, we'd been giving her for her runny nose and itching. We've discontinued it's use and the night time crying has ceased. The itching continues, despite the fact that her skin has improved greatly, and it causes her to wake up some. She'll soon be seeing the Dr for that.
Michael couldn't be kept awake in the evenings. Those of you who know him, know how odd that was to us. We'd struggle to keep him awake until bedtime and then he'd be up at 4am. David and I struggled, as well - sleepy all day and awake at night. Things finally improved at the one week mark.
Our first week also included lots of visitors. (David fell asleep during most of the visits. Sorry, guys.) Many brought gifts or food. What must Kailey think of America? No, we don't normally have so many gift bearing visitors. Thanks to all of you for your support.
Kailey has adjusted so well to everything. From her perspective, can you image how odd this journey must be to her? Three years old is not old enough to understand any of it. During the first few days she would rage if anyone approached the door (to exit). That has ended. She is really a very sweet little girl, that is adjusting incredible well. Her hand has not been an issue. I've not seen anything that she can't do with it. Her personality is still emerging. She wakes with a smile every morning, sleeps well and easily, eats a lot, loves music, smiles most of the day, easily lets us know what she needs/wants, makes monkey sounds when her brother annoys her, nods "yes" to every question we ask, is obsessive about her shoes, and loves jewelry and lip gloss. She's tidy and likes things but in their place. She LOVES water. We need to get her in a pool and see what she can do. The SWI had a pool, so maybe she can swim. Right now she is desperately trying to learn the ABC song.
Big Brother, Michael, is also adjusting. Their relationship seems like the typical sibling relationship. He pesters her. She screams louder than necessary. We correct Kailey and he defends her. He tells me he doesn't want a sister and then insists on sitting next to her.
