The Market

Today we are feeling much more adjusted to everything. We slept later and feel better. We had a late breakfast and headed out to the market with Ike. It's just across the bridge off the island, so it was all on foot. It was a true adventure into Chinese life. First was the herb market. Vendor after vendor selling anything and everything that could be dried and used for ??? Much of it was totally foreign but a few things were clear like dried lizards, flowers, tree bark, starfish, bones, snakes and black ants. Live items included scorpions, turtles, chickens and eels. The next area was pets, which surprised me, since I didn't think that the Chinese cared for pets. They had all of the normal pets and huge quantities of pet care supplies, which led me to believe that they really were meant to be pets. Past that was a more modern mall type area that included all of the better US fast food places.

This afternoon was spent on the island. We took Michael to the playground. I enjoyed watching the families with their children. As adoptive families we are here for the kids that didn't get a loving family. It's easy to forget that most Chinese love and cherish thier children like we do. Today that was so clear, as I watched parents laugh and play with thier kids. The asian children are so beautiful. I could have watched for hours.
Tomorrow our lives change forever. Sleep well, sweet Kailey. Tonight is your last night in the only home you've ever known. We hope you take all of this well.
